Review: SockGuy Socks

Socks are an inexpensive way of getting that 'new kit buzz', a way to add a flash of colour and individuality to your kit; as well as something you often get at Christmas... That said, they are not normally something that you can get that excited about. But perhaps you should...

Because, a good pair of socks can revolutionise your comfort levels. No more sweaty feet, no more freezing toes, and potentially no more smell. A good pair of cycling socks has a long list of virtues compared to a pair of cotton tennis socks from the local sports shop.

SockGuy produces high quality socks, in what can only be described as outlandish and exciting designs and colours. From Bob Marley Rasta to Neon Pink, there is plenty of potential to add individuality to your kit. I've been testing a few out...

First up, the Get Up Stand Up 'Safety MTG' socks. I'm a Bob Marley fan, and you'll often find a bit of Three Little Birds comes up on my iPod, so supporting the Jamaican love through some socks seemed very fitting. These socks are nicely made as well, they have strong stitching, with elasticated arches and cushioned cuffs, and they are washing well too. I'm normally wearing team kit when I'm out riding, but adding a little bit of "Don't worry about a thing" to the look can't be a bad thing!

Next on the feet were the outlandish 'Awesome Crew' neon pink socks. OK, I have to admit it took some courage to wear these out on the bike, but then I figure they're high vis right?! Perfect for the morning commute, and the daily journey on the ferry... (no weird looks there at all...). These are nothing but individual though, and if you want to add a real flash of colour to the increasingly dark coloured kits of today, then these will certainly achieve that!

Leaving my favourite to last; the 'Wooligan Pink Star' Wool socks. At this time of year these are spot on for comfort. They remain warm even when damp, and are highly breathable to avoid sweaty feet. Unlike some winter socks they're not too cumbersome either, making them fine for use with your tighter fitting summer shoes. A discrete pink star on the cuff symbolises that these are a real classic.

The main thing with all the SockGuy socks is how well made they are; high quality fabrics and a good fit make them a pleasure to wear. They are well worth the money (RRP between £9.95 to £11.95); after all, why bother spending a small fortune on nice shoes, only to have sweaty and uncomfortable feet in low quality socks.

Apart from anything though, these are just plain cool.
