Review: Shutt Velo Rapide Roubaix Bib Tights

With winter setting in, a good pair of tights is a good investment. They will keep your legs significantly warmer than leg warmers, and they have a higher cut bib that will help to keep your core warmer too. The Roubaix Bib Tights from Shutt Velo Rapide are a versatile and well thought out pair that is ideal for late autumn and early winter.

The tights are constructed from a Roubaix Lycra material, with a soft brushed fleece inner and a semi wind/water resistance outer. The fabric is both warm and non-restrictive; it is not especially thick, and compared to full-on winter tights it doesn't provide the extreme insulation that they do, but it is perfect for temperatures from 6 degree Celsius right up to 15 degrees, which makes them a versatile choice.

The Roubaix Bib Tights have a highly contoured compression panel design; with the legs separated out into multiple panels held together by flat locked seams to avoid uncomfortable chafing behind the knees and areas of loose material. They also have ankle stirrups that help to hold them firmly in place for the whole length of the leg.

The tights have a high cut front and back, to keep your core as well as your legs warmer in the cold weather. The use of a zipper on the front is much appreciated for when nature calls.

There is no pad in these tights, some will ask why? The reasoning is practicality; as long as you don’t get them too dirty, you can wear them two days running at the weekend, with a fresh pair of padded shorts worn underneath each day. This has the advantage of avoiding the cost of buying two pairs of tights, but it also means that you can continue to use the pad in the shorts you have worn all summer, and likely become accustomed to. Makes sense!

Overall, a good pair of well constructed panelled tights that provide ample comfort and warmth in the autumn and early winter months. You will probably want something a bit thicker for the depths of winter, but these will keep you in contentment for a good proportion of the cold season. The high cut bibs and ankle loops are great features, and the material is coping well with multiple washes. At £89.00 RRP they are a good price for a versatile piece of clothing.
